In 1979, Bob Hannah was a steamroller. He won his third consecutive AMA Supercross series title and  defended his outdoor National title by winning over half of the races in the series. Later in the year, at the height of his powers he broke his leg in 12 places in a water-skiing accident that sidelined for a little more than a year. This photo is interesting in that he was a JT sponsored rider, wore Scott boots that had flopping latches and Hi Point gloves. Notice the corner marker, car tires tossed over a post.

Custom-designed tracks will be built to showcase this new style of racing. World-class venues will allow room to integrate the best track designs from Supercross, Pro Motocross and now SuperMotocross, finally providing a stage where the sport’s ultimate debate can be decided – who is the best in the world and ultimately crowning a new overall champion.

This 2010 and I’m testing a modified 2010 Honda CRF450X in the high desert. I always liked these machines, though I felt they were better suited for fast dez/baja trips rather than our testing grounds which start out wide, and get tight and gnarly. She tended to flame out and carried a  decent girth factor making it a handful when things got narrow and cobbed out. In Baja, I never felt they were issues.
