Mohammed Abacha wins Kano PDP governorship primary

Mohammad Abacha, son of the late former head of state General Sani Abacha, emerged winner of the gubernatorial primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano.

Abacha won the PDP gubernatorial candidacy with 736 votes to defeat his only rival Ja’afar Sani, who polled 710 votes.

The two contestants were the only aspirants that turned out for the primary out of seven contestants that were cleared by the party.

Declaring the result of the primary in the early hours of Thursday, the returning officer, and member of the PDP election supervising committee, Hajiya Amina Garba, said Abacha emerged the winner, having clinched the highest votes count.

Meanwhile, a parallel primary organised under the leadership of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali is still in progress as of the time of filing the report.

At the parallel primary holding at Sani Abacha Youth Centre, Panshekara, seven aspirants are participating, including Sadiq Wali, son of Ambassador Aminu Wali; former chairman, Kano state Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, Ganduje former Commissioner for Works, Engr. Muazu Magaji.

Others are Alh. Ibrahim Little; Kwankwaso’s former Commissioner for budget, Yusuf Dambatta; Kwankwaso’s former commissioner for water resources Dr Yunusa Dangoni, and Yusuf Bello.
