Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser said that the King Salman International Airport (KSIA) will prominently contribute to enhancing the Kingdom’s status as a global logistical hub among the three continents, which will support the national strategic targets for transport and logistics services, Saudi Press Agency reported.

The airport will also contribute to the empowerment of the national strategies of other sectors, such as commerce, industry and tourism, to implement their ambitious targets until realizing sustainable development, he added.

KSIA will be a sophisticated economic hub, an urban landmark and a model for integrated transport that will contribute to the development of the logistics industry and enhancing the aviation economics in accordance with the objectives of the civil aviation strategy that seeks to increase destinations to more than 250 international destinations, transport 330 million passengers and increase the capabilities of the air cargo sector by doubling its capacity to reach more than 4.5 million tons, according to the minister.

The minister also highlighted PIF’s significant national role of and its contributions to the delivery of major projects in the transport and logistics sector.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister, Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), announced earlier today KSIA’s masterplan.

The airport will boost Riyadh’s position as a global logistics hub, stimulate transport, trade and tourism, and act as a bridge linking the East with the West.

KSIA is expected to be one of the world’s largest airports covering an area of nearly 57 km2, allowing for six parallel runways and including the existing terminals named after King Khalid. It will also include 12 km2 of airport support facilities, residential and recreational facilities, retail outlets, and other logistics real estate.
