Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Polvara, McKenzie, and more

Dante Polvara has continued to earn a growing role with Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen and the American midfielder was finally able to savor his first goal on Thursday.

Polvara scored once in Aberdeen’s 2-1 UEFA Europa Conference League loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, logging 71 minutes in group stage play. The 23-year-old helped tie the match in Germany before Frankfurt used a 61st minute winning goal to snatch all three points. Polvara’s cool finish in the 22nd minute tied the match for Aberdeen and gave him his first goal since April 15 while on loan with the Charleston Battery in the USL Championship.

Although Aberdeen suffered an opening night loss in the competition, Polvara will be brimming with confidence heading back to SPFL play this weekend. Aberdeen hosts Ross County on Sunday, still seeking its first league win of the new season.

“I didn’t get on the ball as much as I would have liked to, but it was a great moment to score my first goal for the club,” Polvara said postmatch in Frankfurt. “Getting goals was one of my aims for this season because that’s an important part of my job if I’m going to help the team.”
