2022 Open Championship odds, picks: Tiger Woods predictions from dialed-in golf model that nailed eight majors
Tiger Woods returned from a February 2021 car crash to play in the Masters and PGA Championship this year, but he wound up skipping the U.S. Open. Woods will return to action when he takes part in the 2022 Open Championship, the final major of the year. He is a 50-1 long shot in the latest 2022 Open Championship odds at Caesars Sportsbook. Will Woods be one of the 2022 British Open contenders at St. Andrews? Rory McIlroy is the 9-1 favorite to win the Open Championship 2022, while Jon Rahm is 11-1 and Scottie Scheffler is 12-1. Before locking in your 2022 Open Championship picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.
SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up almost $9,600 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.
At the 2022 Masters, McClure’s model was all over Scottie Scheffler’s first career major championship victory heading into the weekend. The model also nailed Tiger Woods’ exact finishing position at Augusta National before the tournament started (47th). In addition, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot.
This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now that the 2022 Open Championship field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 Open Championship leaderboard.
Top 2022 Open Championship predictions
One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Open Championship 2022: Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world and one of the top favorites, stumbles at St. Andrews and barely cracks the top five. Scheffler jumped to No. 1 in the world rankings with his first three PGA Tour wins early in the season and added his first major championship at the Masters in April. He was able to achieve all that success within a span of six tournaments, but has not been as dominant since then.
Scheffler missed the cut at the PGA Championship and finished outside the top 15 at the RBC Canadian Open. He also failed to crack the top 10 at the Travelers Championship, so his form is lacking heading into the final major of the year. His short Open Championship odds 2022 do not match up with his current form, which is one reason why the model recommends fading him with your 2022 Open Championship bets.
The model has also revealed where Tiger Woods will finish in the Open Championship 2022. The 15-time major winner has played just seven rounds at official events since his Feb. 2021 car crash. Woods struggled with his play and moving around, but he played a full 18-hole practice round before the Open 2022 after being limited to nine-hole practice rounds in other majors.
While practicing is one thing, competing is another, and Woods hasn’t placed in the top 10 at a PGA Tour event since Jan. 2020. However, he has course experience at St Andrews that no one else can match as a two-time winner on these fabled links. No matter how he performs, all eyes will be on Woods at the British Open 2022.
